On Tuesday, November 13th, at Blue Nile 532 Frenchman Street IFN Presents will be hosting another Independent Filmmakers Night.  Join us for a showing of the award-winning film “Hybrid Pioneer” directed by Kristian Day, starring Brent Houzenga.  With a special introduction presentation by Kristian Day.  There will be a q/a after the film as well as a special musical performance by Brent, who provided all the music for the film.

“The goal of IFN is to build and inspire a strong community of artists who create art on a regular basis.  With the art of film it takes many artists working together to create a living network of art.  IFN: Community offers a way to achieve these goals by referring talented artist to those in need” -Thomas Kelly

Over the past few years Brent Houzenga has been doing alot of things.  Not only did his work catch the eye of documentary filmmaker Kristian Day, his art has been seen in Chicago, Kansas City, D.C., Portland, LA, Austin, Miami, and New Orleans. He has been featured in Art and Art Galleries of The South, and was on the front page of Scoot Magazine, as well as featured in “Stickers: From Punk Rock to Contemporary Art”.  But getting alot done quickly is easy money for Houzenga, in fact he has only been living in New Orleans for a short time and his work is already featured in 3 galleries around the city.

In 2010, Day founded Modern American Cinema, a film production and distribution company based in Des Moines, Iowa. The company has produced and distributed feature length narratives and documentaries to over sixty theaters in the midwest. The company most noted for the feature length documentary, Capone’s Whiskey: The Story of Templeton Rye, and Iowa Public Television program Templeton Rye: Iowa’s Good Stuff (both directed by Day).  Hybrid Pioneer was the first film in this series. Houzenga’s work is eccentric and amazing, and the documentary about him is well done and pleasantly human.  Doors open at 7pm.
