The first weekend of release for the New Orleans-shot “Killer Joe” was a limited one — as in, it opened on just three screens, all in Manhattan — but that was enough for director William Friedkin’s dark crime comedy to emerge as a winner on the specialty box office charts. The film, starring Matthew McConaughey as a Texas hitman, logged a $12,621 per-screen average, tops among this week’s limited releases.
