Film New Orleans acts as a liaison for all film and video projects working in the city. The City of New Orleans generates a blanket, free of charge film certificate. This film certificate is required in order to acquire all additional permits through other city agencies.
Please contact the office to begin planning your work in the city as early as possible. Office staff is available to consult and assist even in the initial stages of project development. Certain requests and activities such as pyrotechnic effects, street closures, parking requests, or filming in the historic French Quarter and Garden District may require permitting through city agencies other than the Film Permit and may take longer to permit. Please allow extra time to facilitate these requests. Film New Orleans will act as your project’s personal liaison and will provide one-on-one consulting to determine what permits and agencies you will need to make your project a success.
Prior to principal photography, the Film New Orleans may host a New Orleans City Hall Production Meeting for feature films and large-scale productions depending on your level of impact. Unlike other major metropolitan cities your production will have the opportunity to engage in a one-on-one consulting session with City of New Orleans Agencies to troubleshoot any logistical issues before the camera and your budget dollars begin to roll! At this meeting Location Managers will present “No Parking” and Street Closure Requests and Community Notification Procedures will be discussed. Time and time again productions have commented that the expertise of the knowledgeable locals shared at these meetings has proven invaluable.
Applicants should submit a completed application as soon as the production has formalized its location choice in New Orleans.
The Film Certificate is issued by Film New Orleans and is a prerequisite for all other City permitting.
