Permits and Procedures
Film activity in Orleans Parish is coordinated through the New Orleans Office of Film and Video. Currently the City of New Orleans does not generate a blanket film permit and no general permit fee is charged. However, all film activity must be vetted through the Office of Film and Video to coordinate with other city agencies for permits that may require fees.

It is strongly recommended you contact the office to begin planning your work in the city as early as possible. Office staff is available to consult and assist even in the initial stages of project development. Certain requests and activities such as pyrotechnic effects, street closures, parking requests, or filming in the historic French Quarter may require permitting through city agencies other than the Office of Film and Video. The Office of Film and Video will act as your project’s personal liason and will provide one-on-one consulting to determine what permits and agencies you will need to make your project a success.

All projects seeking to film in Orleans Parish must initially submit an Application for Filming . This form will help the Office of Film and Video identify your project’s basic needs and appropriate contact person/s.

Prior to principal photography, the Office of Film and Video will host a New Orleans City Hall Production Meeting for all feature films and large-scale productions. Unlike other major metropolitan cities your production will have the opportunity to engage in a one-on-one consulting session with City of New Orleans Agencies to troubleshoot any logistical issues before the camera and your budget dollars begin to roll! At this meeting Location Managers will present NO Parking and Street Closure Requests and Community Notification Procedures will be discussed. Time and time again productions have commented that the expertise of the knowledgeable locals shared at these meetings has proven invaluable.

Insurance Information
Projects filming in Orleans Parish will be required to submit a Certificate of Insurance to the Office of Film and Video.

Filming in New Orleans Neighborhoods
The City of New Orleans is no stranger to the film industry. Long before Louisiana’s innovative tax incentive program was implemented New Orleans played host to a number of feature film and television projects including: JFK, The Pelican Brief, and An Interview with a Vampire just to name a few. Since the incentives New Orleans has hosted dozens of projects including: Ray, Déjà vu, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons. Our history of filmmaking means the local community understands that film plays an important role in our local economy and works closely with the Office of Film and Video to accommodate productions doing business in our city. In order to foster an environment of cooperation and synergy the New Orleans Office of Film and Video works closely with location teams to ensure the public is aware of “No Parking” requests, street closures, special effects and other production activity that will affect their daily lives.

Street parking for film shoots must be posted 72 to 24 hours prior to the posting going into effect. Please see NO Parking and Street Closures Requests for more details.

City of New Orleans parking meters are available for production rental. Meter numbers and the corresponding addresses should be recorded and submitted to the Office of Film and Video. Film related projects receive a discounted rental rate of $12.50 per day per metered spot.

Communication with the local community is key here in the Crescent City. Please see Community Notification Procedures for resident and business outreach requirements. The Office of Film and Video is ready and willing to assist your project in securing the support and cooperation of the local community.
