Film Communities


New Orleans and the surrounding areas boast a history of a strong artistic community. The following are links to various organizations that speak specifically to film and entertainment in and around the city.


Film Groups/Societies

  • New Orleans Film Society - hosts the New Orleans Film Festival which has grown into a major showcase of local, regional, national and international films. In addition to the annual Film Festival each fall, NOFS hosts special events throughout the year: the Italian Film Festival, the French Film Festival, the New Orleans International Children's Film Festival, and other events designed to benefit local film and video audiences, artists and professionals.
  • N.O.V.A.C. (The New Orleans Video Access Center) - NOVAC fosters the creation and appreciation of film and video in the New Orleans area for a public of diverse ages, income levels and backgrounds through education, career development, community outreach, independent productions and special events.
  • Arts Council of New Orleans - The Arts Council works in partnership with the City of New Orleans, community groups, local, state and national governmental agencies, and other nonprofit arts organizations to meet the arts and cultural needs of the New Orleans community through a diverse range of initiatives and services.
  • Zeitgeist Multi-Disciplinary Arts Center - In addition to screening movies not available in regular theaters (euro-only, independent, documentary, etc.) Zeitgeist hosts live music, performing arts and other arts and entertainment events.
  • Contemporary Arts Center - The CAC is a multi-disciplinary arts center which is dedicated to the presentation, production and promotion of art of our time. It accomplished these by organizing curated exhibitions, performances and programs; enlarging audiences; and encouraging collaboration among diverse artists, institutions, communities and supporters.

Meet Up Groups

Meet-up groups make it easy for anyone to organize a local group or find one of thousands already meeting up face-to-face. The New Orleans and Louisiana film communities have several groups catered to the film and entertainment industry.

 


New Orleans Community Cinema

New Orleans Community Cinema is a FREE monthly screening series, that pairs independently produced documentary films, on timely and important social issues, with leading organizations working on related issues in communities across the country. Community Cinema screenings are followed by a short panel discussion, featured speaker, or other presentation. New Orleans Community Cinema is made possible through the generous support of the Charitable Film Network (CFN), City of New Orleans Office of Film & Television, Louisiana Office of Entertainment Industry Development, Dillard University Theater Department, Antenna Gallery, Whole Foods Market, Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), and Independent Television Service (ITVS).
